Is it haraam to look pretty - Ramadan Beauty Series

I hope your month has gotten off to a great start in sha Allah!

This ramadan i am doing something I have been wanting to do for the last 3 years but didn’t feel confident in doing.

I want to really talk about beauty with you,

and share some of my thoughts on the things I have learned, the many that i have confirmed and how i have finally reconciled the concept of beauty and islam without compromising our modesty.

And because this is an ocean of a topic, I will be breaking it up in a series of posts so you can just dip your toes in and possibly have the same aha moments I had…

So,

is it haraam that you want to look pretty?

It certainly feels like it, doesn’t it? Specially if you make the grave mistake of following what random people say on some social media spaces🙄….but if that would be the case….

Why would Allah say that He is Beautiful and He loves Beauty?

And why we are told in the Quran that Allah has given us beautiful adornments to cover ourselves with?

And that He loves to see the external beauty of His servants that reflect the blessings that He has given?

Beauty is in there somewhere, and everything that has it, is praised by Allah.

So sometimes I would think that, well, this is just beauty in character, beauty in our actions and our hearts, (so don’t think you can wear all the makeup you want, claudia!)

But the physical beauty is also mentioned, specifically.

We are told about our dear Prophet(s.a.w) taking care of his physical self, even that, of his belongings, was a comb that he would use regularly, and furthermore, his wives as well, they had practices that we would consider as skin and hair care.

So when does it get to a point where it doesn’t align?

That is what I want to touch on the next post, (because hint: is not just because we want to show it off….)

❤❤❤
