Blushes for Modest Makeup look - The basics

Salam Aleikum sister!

In this blog I would like to speak to you about blushes,

Why you might think?

Well blushes can be a great tool to achieve an all natural modest  makeup look that is soft and delicate, and it will not add a lot of extra work to your routine!

But to be completely honest, blushes were not the first item I thought  about when trying to come up with "no makeup" makeup looks, I would mostly only apply it when I had the time to sit down and do a full face of makeup, but, that all has changed, and I would like to share with you the 3 things I learned so you can also use blushes for a beautiful, minimal and all natural appearance.

So why do women wear blushes anyway?

Blushes have been used in the past (and still to this day) to give the skin that flush of color that comes from a healthy, young and vibrant complexion. I believe it has a lot to do with the survival instinct within us that looks for features of health in other people. And nothing looks as healthy as nice rosy cheeks!

So, because our current, super busy lifestyles, lack of sleep and poor eating habits being more present than ever, that vibrant, glowy complexion we all wish to have sometimes needs a little boost.

And that’s where blushes come in!

When applied properly, they help you look awake, and refreshed in an effortless way!

Ok enough talk, let’s get to the tips:

  1. Find your colors!
  2. Keep it simple
  3. Location is key!
  1. Blushes can come is so many different colors, that it can be super confusing when the time comes to choose one for your own face. So below I'm sharing some quick videos with the  best colors for different skin tones. Lighter skin tones will benefit from the softer pinks and peaches, and then as you go down in in shades you will need blushes that have a deeper hue but still staying within the pinks and coral tones.

2.Less is best: This was the essential shift I had to make, I used to think that you simply could not use blush on it’s own, that somehow it needed to come after bronzer, foundation, mascara, etc, but for modest makeup, you want to think about making the blush the focus point of your look. So super minimal eyes, and a natural lip color will keep your look as pretty and  natural as it gets

3. Location is key! So where exactly do you apply blush? That is the biggest question i hear, and i can’t tell you how many times I’ve totally ruined my makeup because I applied my blush either  too high, too low, or too much!

It was not until I figured out a few rules, (And the why of these rules) that I was able to really use it as it’s meant to be used! And once you learn too, no matter your face shape, you will know exactly where to put it!

Let’s begin, and i am going to try to make it as simple as possible:

1st thing you want to know is that there are different places you can apply your blush, you can either go for the more traditional, in the apple of your cheeks  kind of look, or a more structured application.

So, how do you know which one suits you better?, well your face shape will determine most of that:

for more round, chubby cheeks: you want to use the more structured look. And for more slim face shapes, you can go for both! (and of course it all comes down to preference and what you feel best with, so don’t forget to try them both out!)

After this, you want to know the places where you should NOT apply any blush, like in the area around your mouth, in the orbital space around your eyes, and not too far in on your cheeks.

I know that leaves you with a small space to work with, but that’s exactly the point, blushes need just a little to make a Big difference, and the key here is to not go overboard (which can be so easily done with blushes).

As you can see, these 3 tips, sound quite simple, but once you get the hang of them, they will be the key to  a light, airy and natural look!
